Computer problems fixed

on

So I was having problems with my system. The main symptom was that IE wouldn’t launch and Entourage wouldn’t display HTML emails. So I was going to back up my machine and reinstall the system. I firewired it up to my work iMac and started looking at what needed to be backed up. I went to get the size of my Applications folder and the Finder crashed. So I decided it was time to run DiskWarrior.

Now I work for Alsoft, the makers of DiskWarrior, and got to use the new 3.0 OSX version. It told me I had overlapped files on my system volume. Specifically some files in the JavaVMFramework. We spent some time looking over the files here at Alsoft to see if we could figure out what caused them to be overlapped. Didn’t figure out what, but some TurboTax files were overlapped as well.

So to make a long story a little longer, once DiskWarrior un-overlapped the files I went to compare the JavaVMFramework with the one on my iMac. The iMac is still running 10.2.1 and didn’t even have the 1.4.1 version. So I through that folder away, booted back on the PowerBook and tried to launch IE. Worked like a charm. So I don’t think I need to reinstall the OS.
