Good and Evil in Texas Politics

on

My wife sent me a URL because there was mention a way for corporations not to pay franchise taxes. I went and read it and found an blood chilling quote that says much about what’s wrong with American politics

TFT generally takes the line that we have seldom met a tax we didn’t like…

That just isn’t right. I know they are doing it for education, which is better than some causes, but it doesn’t really matter. We don’t need more taxes. Why is it that it costs more as a percentage of the people’s money to do the government’s job than it did in the past? The simple answer is because the government has decided it has more of a job to do.

The hopeful thing in this article shows why Texas is great.

Under the Texas Constitution, the only way a state income tax can be collected is if voters approve it in a referendum, and two-thirds of the proceeds have to go for property-tax rate reductions, while the other third goes for education.

So yeah for the Texas Constitution which will keep us from ever having and income tax. The people of Texas will never vote for it because we don’t believe the government won’t just find a need for more tax revenue and raise taxes again.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but wouldn’t it be just as easy to have a proposition to change the state constitution as it would be to have a referendum as per the current state constitution?
